Dragonfly field meeting

12 August 2017, 10:30 ( Add to calendar )

This field meeting will aim to spot, identify and record dragonflies at one or two nature reserves (depending on available time).

The Abbey Green park is beside the River Anker. During the winter 2013/14 a significant amount of work was undertaken by the council in consultation with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, improving the water bodies on the site. At a field meeting in 2015 nine dragonfly species were recorded. The aim of this meeting is to see what is here in late summer and, hopefully, to extend the site species list.

There is an additional exciting possibility - the River Anker here is ideal habitat for the Willow Emerald - might we find the first individual of the species here? (the nearest record for Willow Emerald is 25 miles to the east).

Depending on available time a visit may be made to nearby Alvecote Pools.
